As we all know the Jocks want independence and want to run their own country.
Bloody wonderful idea as far as I am concerned, and hopefully the English will get an EU grant to re-build Hadrian's Wall. But this time higher and stronger.
But, if the Jock's get their own country, how will that affect their fishing quotas?
Will they still be able to plunder our fish stocks as they have done in the past?
Or will they be set their own quotas ,by the EU ?
Will they be able to fish our inshore waters?
I have looked on Google but found out nothing.
I do know from bitter personal experience that the Scotish trawlers decimated the Bass breeding grounds around the Island back in the 70's, and they never recovered.
Or will the English goverment, make a special case for them, and let them carry on fishing in our waters?
I fear that will be the case, after all it seems that the English would rather pay the Jocks to build their ships ,than have them built in England.
Or have I got this all wrong?

I would not worry too much about independence. Scottish Cf work under the rules laid down by the CFP that’s what needs reforming in fact needs ripping up. Although an incomer/Tourist in the SW Scotland most of the CF boats I see are Irish, IOM and Spanish The English government has little say about the CFP.

King Salmon 1st .....good grief ! My wife is Scottish, I am of distant Irish lineage and I was born in England (as was my father and his father; going back 5-6 generations). I am British and dismayed at the selfish greed of those that seek only power by playing on nonsense pseudo patriotism. Every other (sensible) country would unify and gain in strength by doing so.... not fragment and divide. If any ordinary citizen - in Scotland - is foolish enough to believe that they, personally, will be made wealth by North Sea oil, simply by giving power to that false idol - Salmon - then I have underestimated how dumb some folks can be. Good luck with that one ! Meanwhile, we, the English part of this crappy little island should be mature enough not to make emotive statements about anyone that is mentally retarded and thinks they will be made better through dissolution of the Union. Great Britain ...we were once entitled to that name...and what made us Great was unity and a Union, with regional characteristics that made us unique in the world Just my thoughts on it

But the thing is that regardless of mental re tardiness this is the path that the Jocks may well take.
So where will they stand on their fishing rights?
I remember back in the 50's, 60,s and 70,s we used to fish off the Fairways (off the Needles) every year, when the Bass came in to breed.
We had small boats so were weather restricted ,but when we got out there on the odd day we did well, year after year after year.
Until one day around 1977 when two Scotish Pair trawlers turned up.
We were getting boxes of Bass on a good day, these trawlers were taking tons. They didn't give a fuxxxxx . They even called up the Ashburton ( police boat) to protect them as they were getting so much hassle.
What happened? They flooded the market and couldn't give Bass away, so they went to France to flog their catch. Fortunately the French were tipped off and as they came into port the French fishermen were standing on the wall with buckets of Disiel and made it clear tat if they tried to unload their catch and flood the French market, the derv went over the fish.
Say what you like but the French look after their own.
So the catch was dumped , and then what.
The basxxxxx went and did it again behind Hurst, the Brambles, and down the South Coast.
These breeding grounds have not recovered to this day.
Am I bitter about what those Scotish Trawlers did, legally ,?
Bloody right I am.
And I hope that if they do decide to go their own way they will not be allowed to fish our waters.
Just a point of view though to encourage a debate on the forum.

I suspect nothing much with change even if Scotland gets its independence, which I doubt will happen anyway. Daft idea really.

I should point out that I am not anti Scottish, my two best friends are Jocks.
One was the best man at my wedding.
I have even offered to make them honorary Englishmen, bought them the English football shirts, and everything.
Cant tell you what the reply was , but they declined the offer.
It is their fishing , and mostly trawling I have the grief with.
Along with the Spanish, French, English, Russian, etc etc etc
Catch today, gone tomorrow, and sod te rest of you
