Well Xmas is over and New Year is nearly upon us.
So does anyone have a New Years resolution?
To catch a species they haven't done before?
To take out the youngest Nipper of the family and teach him/her how to fish.
To defiantly have a 'Daybreaker' every morning ?
Mine is quite simple.
In all the years we have been together, Mrs OldFart and me have never been fishing together, as she hates fishing ( cricket, football).
So as soon as the Sun returns and it gets a bit warmer, I am going to go the the tackle shop and get her the most expensive spinning rod and reel there is in the shop.
Then I am going to see young Ian Woodford at Shalfleet Boatyard and arrange to borrow his 18 foot boat.
Then when we get the right day, nice and sunny and warm, no wind, right tides, I am going to buy some wiggly worms, spoons and all the rest of he gear, pack a wonderful Hamper of great nibbles and two bottles of Bollinger.Champagne and get her to come with me down to Shalfleet on the pretext of going on a picnic up the river.
Then when I get her finally in the boat, I shall get out the hamper, rods and gear and before she can escape we will be off down the river to Westernhaven.
Nearly at the end of the river there's a great spot, so I will run the boat ashore, get the rods set up, and for the first time in our life we will have gone fishing together.!!
Mind you, as soon as that float hits the water, I will pop open the bubbly, grab a blanket and Mrs OldFart and take her into to woods and give her a damn good seeing too.
Now that's fishing !!!!!
And my New Years Resolution Amongst many others
One life LIVE IT !!

I'm resolved to re-discover my lost fishing haunts...lost to my time in the desert
My second resolution is to go and try for that UK stingray; a species that is at the top of my list

Then fish between the Chine at Sudmore (Brooke ) and the outcrop of rocks toward Brighstone.
Late springtime, when the mackerel first used to be here.
Double 'flapper', and don't cast out too far at night.
That is of course , if they all haven't been caught in nets like the Mackerel.
But we used to get loads of the bloody things there.
PS
Given a chance they stick like a blanket to the sand, and when you get them in mind the tail !!
That can whip really fast.
This bit is just for others reading this, but a Stingray sting can really fxxx you up or as Steve Urwin found out, kill you if you are really unlucky.
