Now this one I have no idea about.
I have just taken 'Monty' (my dog) for his evening constitutional over to the Bay.
At this time of permanent darkness I allays take a torch and Monty has his flashing collar ( What will they think of next?)
So ,Montys on the beach and starts scratching at something on the shoreline .
I go and have a look and its a Trigger Fish, quite big around pound and a bit, then another, and another, six in all.
All looking fresh, all dead, all on the beach.
Firstly I thought they were quite rare in these waters (rarer now) and I thought they liked warmer deep waters.
So... Why were six washed up on the beach in December?
Its been too rough for boats to go out netting etc, so a bit of a mystery.
Any ideas?

this happens in the lower bristol channel over winter as well. i think as the waters a little warmer they have stayed on late, then as the temp drops they get caught out and don't survive. Apparently it's not that uncommon.

Very true. Nets, Longlines, Pots and Wickers can be laid off the shore at low Spring Tides and with good results.
But ...only a bloody fool would have put any gear out recently.
Because the tides were wrong, the wind gusted to over 100 mph ( that is from Herman, head of Needles Coastguard) and the seas were too big.
