I was down Yarmouth last week yarning to a chap who is doing a survey down here.
He told me ,right or wrong, that the sea temperature at the moment is 12 degrees.
Now I remember that not so long ago, in the winter the sea was a lot colder than that. So cold that there weren't no point in wearing a life jacket, because by the time any bugger saw your flares and found you the hyperthermia had killed you anyway.
but now its changed,so how I ask you lot has it changed the fishing?
And what should we fish for, especially in the rivers that are far more quanteralient to temperature and salt water.
Freezing winter days used to be for Cod and Flatties but with a mackerel caught in the Solent two week before Xmas, I wonder if we should just fish for the same species all year round, as it seems they are here.
Like the Trigger Fish that are washing up on the beach round The Back of the Wight. (Although it could be argued that those ones left their departure from our shores ,just a tad too late) , other species must be 'wintering over' as the water is still warm.
So mackerel feathers out next weekend then. Well you don't know till you try!
