Wind from the east, fish bite the least, wind from the south blows food into the fishes mouth, wind from the north few fishermen fair forth, wind from the west fish bite the best
Something my great grandfather always told me and I always gave the response of ''yeah yeah''
But does anyone know if there is any truth to this saying?
Only asking as i looked at the wind for tomorrow and its looking like a westerly....

Hi I have heard that before , I think with the east wind it is something to do with air pressure ie high putting the fish off of feeding and I have heard whether true or not that even trawler catches are down on an east wind ,how that works I don't know.

I have fished for years, and worked on a trawler , run pots and ( shame on me) a few long lines back in the day.
and I don't care what any bugger says, when that wind goes East, the fishing drops right off.
Even when we were trawling in the 'Wamm' ( name of the boat) you could be doing well and the wind would shift, nothing.
Now tell me how that works?
I ran a thread like this one a few years back and they did say that on the East coast the fishing gets better in a Easterly, but I suspect that is because its an onshore wind that churns the bottom up.
But on the island, you may as well stay at home and have rampant ,perverted ,unbridled sex with the wife, as stand on a freezing beach here you will catch bugger all.

I advised the wife of the sex opportunity when the wind is in the east, and she has advised that I can go fishing more often. Nice one Old Fart, there's knowledge in those years.
All the best Al

Fish will always feed but, like everyone else has said, i've also noticed a significantly reduced catch return with easterlies, no idea why as i don't get that technical.
If it's an easterly and crap weather - stay in with the missus, good weather - get out there!!

Any calm day will suit me.... especially if offshore
If it is blowing anything of F4 or above then regardless of the direction the fishing is poo :0)
