Hi Guys I'm back with a question
Would the members of this this group do me a favour and give your views on the following please;
1. Would you support a move toward some species being recognised as a ‘Sport Fishing Species.’ If so, "
2. What species would you think would qualify, i.e. Bass Mullet Bream or any other species
3. what kind of regulation would you seek?" i.e. Bigger MLS, Sea Angling only areas, Restrictions on or the complete ban of the commercial effort on what species. Open/Closed seasons.
4.Would you for example favour something like the Irish set up with a bag limit or that used to manage the Striped Bass in the States were some competitions have a million dollar pay out?
Please feel free to add any comment as long as it's not to rude.

I don't know anywhere near enough to comment on the admin side of things but for me, smoothound have to be the best fighting fish IMHO In terms of skill/patience/difficulty to catch - turd slurpers all the way

Best comp I ever came across was off the Florida Keys where there is a bank that on a certain set of tides, when the fish are there, the organisers go out the day before and catch a load of fish.
Every fish is tagged with different prizes, but one fish has the golden 'ticket' as the tag.
Next day everyone is out trying to catch that fish.
If it ain't caught then the main prize rolls over to the next year.
It was tens of thousands when I was there ,many years ago and not caught that year.
Lots of tagged fish were caught, and returned. They don't want the fish just the tags.
Doubt it would work here as the geography is different, but a great comp.
I would ban all commercial fishing in the breeding season, and pay compensation to the our fishermen from the overseas aid budget.

Inshore bass (3 mile limit) should be recreational angling only. Mullet all zones. Smooth hound and tope - recreational only.
All rays and sharks, except dogfish and thornback ray, should be recreational only. All sharks and rays should be returned, whether alive or dead; no incentive to retain them/zero landing.
International agreement to only net mackerel for human food; not for fertiliser.
Assess and limit the netting of sandeel for fish pellets (to feed pen bred salmon)
No gill netting or tangle netting within 3 miles of the UK shoreline. Other countries have this style of fishing control and some have complete bans on such nets; all benefit fish stock and have sound science supporting the control. This would also considerably reduce unlicenced netting, which is a major complaint of the licenced commercial fleet.
Ban on pair trawlers targetting the spawning shoals of bass & mullet in the English Channel. Ban on all nets (inc seine nets) targetting mullet around the shore of Cornwal & Devon. Ban on the IoM targetting spawning mullet shoals (to be used as fertiliser as they cannot sell them!)
Just my personal thoughts, desires, hopes

PS We could use you on WSF C+P to help rid the site of commercials domination a battle we are slowly but surely winning Might see if I can find some time...trouble is that WSF C&P is just too time consuming. I ususally go on there to 'have ago at the Commies' when I am stuck with nothing to do, i.e. family visits I admire anyone that does stand to go in there, but until the site owner appoints some anglers as Mods then the page will regrettably be dominated by those who are either commies, or their sycophants. It is meant to be an angling forum !!!

Very much a point that is being pushed at this time and the chosen one is coming unstuck too

I'd like to see a netting ban too, though I don't how designating a species as a sportfish would help. Probably a bit different in America - they seem to have done a good job of protecting their striped bass, but I'm not familiar with their practices.
As for bickering with the fools on wsf, I don't see there's much point in that. The equally foolish mods there either delete posts or accounts of those who shoot arrows into the rotten apple barrel. I don't suppose they have much influence where it matters anyway, and even if they do, a forum is no place to deal with it.
