Not a fishing post and for that I apologise but I thought it may interest some.I have not been fishing since 29th December when I had a trip out to the Needles.Usually January to March I don't bother because the fishing is very slow and I take this time every year to concentrate on paddle training.I intend to beat my IOW cicumnav time this year taking my best to under 10 hours and I need to get in all the miles that I can.
This year I am lucky because I have been inspired by and able to train with a group of guys who are attempting to paddle from Poole to Alderney in the Summer. This weekend their plan was to paddle round the islands in Poole Harbour.Having done the same trip about a month ago I wanted something a little more challenging.
I opted for a Kimmeridge launch to Swanage and back.
It was zero degrees when I got there but the car park was almost full by 7am with surfer dudes.Had a a bit of a chat and eventually got on the water just after half seven.
Uneventful launch but good fun watching the surfers.
There were big swells right along the coastline and some good waves
It was quite disconcerting at times having what looked like a mountain of water coming towards you
I was soon down to St.Albins and the overfalls
Carried on past dancing ledge till I was at Peveril.Because the race was pretty wild on the flood I opted to turn round at Peveril and head back early before it got too far into the ebb.
There were some guys climbing the cliffs, nutters
The overfalls were slightly worse on the way back
It was a great training day in testing conditions and I came through it all totally unscathed until I got dumped 3 times in the surf on my arrival into Kimmeridge bay on my return
Great to fill a missing link, now I have done the whole coastline between Butlins Bognor and Ringstead bay.
