Just for a bit of fun, how about guessing when the first genuine Mackerel will be caught and posted on this forum this season?
Not the Jack Hargreaves type that are pre- gutted and have spent the long stormy winter months in the safety of a deep freeze, but the real deal.
To keep it fair, let's make it up to half a mile off shore max.
I recon that with this mild weather they will be early so I say -April 12, Three weeks away and then summer is here!!!!!

Now, now, no sitting on the fence here, we need a date for the first one caught.
Time to nail your colours to the mast!
According to that Excellent book by Fred Mew, Back of the Wight, it should be in April.
Now that is a good read, my god they were some tough old Hombres, back then!
And if you haven't read it, then you bloody well should.
Really makes you think how pampered we are.
And not that I would dream to interfere with the comp between you two , but perhaps a bonus point for the first one to catch a Mackerel?
good fishing you two I for one am enjoying your comp, sat indoors in the warm!!

Well, well, well, we went out today to do a bit of bottom fishing , and on the way back in there were birds working off of Sconce.
Naturally we had no feathers, so was it Mackerel?
Will have a look tomorrow, when there will be nothing there guaranteed.

Well I am certain there were some in the Solent yesterday, so the feathers will be out next weekend, so the proof will be on this forum, on the 12th as predicted.
As long as nipper can work out how to put a photo on that is!!
