Hello, Could anyone make suggestions of where to start looking to try and catch a big wrasse from the shore. I often catch small ones, but would like to fight a biggun. Any thoughts on best baits would be great too, I am thinking hard shell crabs would be best. Al

There were always big'uns down Rocken end at Blackgang, also some big ones from Bembridge and Shanklin ledges over the low tide.
Crab and worm all the way

thanks for reply. should I be looking away from the harbour - around the lifeboat station ?
Shanklin ledges - would that be the far end heading towards Luccombe ??
I am not seeking specific marks, just don't know many area's around the island apart from well know, and easy access areas.
Thanks for info

Luccombe is another place you will catch big wrasse but be prepared to lose gear - if you turn left at the bottom of Atherfield and walk down to the point theres a ledge that runs out there. I have had big Wrasse there in Daylight.... having said all that the biggest Wrasse I ever caught was off the end of Ryde Pier

Thanks for info Sorry for the late reply, Shanklin ledge, i think there's a path/steps down from the gardens up above - or you could just walk along the beach from Shanklin front, i couldn't give you specific marks as it's been years since i've been there - Bembridge would be my first attempt for a biggy if Rocken end is out due to the accessibility!
