Last weekend, as you may recall it wasn't raining and for once I managed to prise Mrs Old Fart out of bed,at Sparrows Fart to take the hound for a walk.
I like to do this occasionally as it 'keeps her on her toes'.
She then wonders all week what I am up to asking her to go for a walk at that time of the morning and not trying to move round from 'the lee of Bum island ,to the weather side' as is normal for that time of day.
Still we got 'Monty' in the car and off we set.
I must say that I was shocked by the way the storms of last winter have decimated the beach we went to,( remembering that it was a big low tide that weekend) and I imagine that it is the same all along the coast,
So worth a look at low tide before you fish your favourite spot as it may have changed.
Still I digress,
As we took the lunatic dog along the beach, I noticed a few birds working, then more ,and more.
Now I know that it was Bass because that is just what it was like in the 60s and70s before they got nearly exterminated by greedy trawlers/gill netters.
It has taken this long for a shoal that size to get back there, as it is their breeding ground.
Unfortunatly, if I saw it,I have no doubt other people did and the netters will be back again to put the clock back by wiping them out again.
Wouldnt it be nice, if just for once the commercial lot said 'No we will leave them for a couple of year to get the stock back, then fish for them with rod and line, still make a few Bob and conserve the stocks'
Chances of that??
Zero!!
Still it was a nice walk along Cridmore Beach, and on the low tide you could even see the remains of Crundels Peir, so it wasn't a wasted day, and after a romantic stroll hand in hand as the sun rose in the sky, I had great hopes of returning to the marital bed upon our return.
Unfortunatly those hopes were dashed, and I was sent out on gardening duty and spent the rest of the day giving the worms a hard time.
Such is life!
