A decent sized South coast Tope has been a target for a couple of years and was fully re-inforced last year by getting bitten off twice at one mark.
This mark has constantly given us plenty double figure Smut in a session and sometimes a lot more. After a couple of seasons of studying the mark myself and my fishing buddy decided to invite a couple of other veterans of the sport. The collective kayakfishing experience of the 5 man team came to around 40 years,as you can probably imagine the stories and the banter was second to none.Dover,Southampton,Dunstable,Christchurch and a Londoner,a right mix.
We met up and made our way out to the mark to find something that we are not used to here,a biteless couple of hours except for a few baitfish
But when the tide turned and it started pumping through all bloody hell broke loose
Double figure Smut every drop!
Sorry about the amount of photos,I lost count and stopped taking pics of them in the end.
Later in the day I was battling a Smut and the line started peeling off the livebait rod.Dealt with the Smut quickly, picked up the other rod to see if it was still on..............................Yes!
Finally a PROPER Solent Tope, this fish meant so much to me I would have probably kissed it had I not been b1tch slapped by a Smut earlier
Had a great day with a great team,at one time all 5 of us were into a double figure Smut at the same time. (one of the lads first fish was a 20lb+ Smut)Everyone was buzzing.
A few of us went back Sunday, some of us the worse for wear
I didn't catch a single Smoothound
But...............................................
Did manage a nice 55cm Bass
And a couple of Undulates before it blew up and we beat a hasty retreat.
Happy is a massive understatement.I will remember this weekend for ever.
