Well, take 4!! We decided on a different venue for sunday nights endeavour, a new spot to try for me about a miles paddle off of Sandown. As soon as we arrived we saw mackerel playing around close in so a bit of feathering was called for!
And they proved to be the killer bait, straight from the off we were into fish, a thorny for me at first
a couple of these
then a bit of interesting variety
Roo about 30 yards off had a mixture of thorniies, painteds and an undy when he thought he'd chuck a head and guts out on his spinning rod hoping for a bass, as i was into another painted a shout of "Fish on!!" echoed out. Now this rod was a 2oz casting weight with 14lb braid, after over an hour of frustration, bad language and sobbing he finally brought to the yak this lump
This lump was guesstimated at at least 50lb, an absolute beast of an eel!!!
During this epic (and long winded scrap) i had another couple of painteds
And then, it happened, finally an undulate came up from the depths, a good double figure fish but, as i lifted it out of the water to grab it a panic inducing Shhhhcklooooop and the BA#tard fu##ing thing came off!!!!!!!!!!
I swore a bit
I swore a bit more!!
Still, an absolutely fantastic night, i ended up with 5 painteds, a thorny and an eel, Roo had 6 painteds, 2 thornies, an undulate and 3 eels, Tony (who didn't bother getting some fresh macky) just the one eel.
A night of bites, fights, laughter and colourful language!!
Can't wait to do it again and, hopefully, finally break my Undy duck, i was so frustratingly bloody close this time!!!!!!
