This years boat fishing has been crap.
Worse than last year and that says something.
Not only has there been no fish out there ,but no sign of any fish.
No birds working, no shoals breaking, no fish crap in the water, nothing.
Which makes you think that the Mackerel etc have been fished out.
But when I was taking Monty for his evening stroll, hundreds of white bait were being washed up on the beach.
I found out later that they were being chased in by a shoal of Scad, no use to man nor beast, but when I had a close look at the ' white bait', they were all baby Mackerel.
The guys in the Kayaks who caught the Scad said there was a bloody great shoal of the 'whitebait' .
So where did they all come from?
I can't imagine the little buggers have swum that far, but there again Elvers do so perhaps they have come from Skotish waters before they get independence and claim them.
Still without any Mackerel, to see so many baby ones ( two -three inches) it did seem ....strange.

There's been a couple of big shoals off of Fort Vic (but mainly joeys) in the last month and there's also been an increase off of Sandown recently - plus the yak fishing has been pretty good to me so i can't grumble about this years deep water dangling
