Well I have beed reliably informed that the drug Soma (prescription only) is the ultimate in muscle relaxant.
I can only assume that the reason that I cannot get a fuxxxxxg appointment to see my GP for at least ten days, is because so many anglers and fishermen are flooding the NHS to acquire this drug so they are flexible enough to be able to insert their own heads up their own ass holes.
As you know I am an old fart who has been fishing for far too many years.
Back in the 60s and 70s we used to get orders from the potters for Stones of Mackerel.
Ten stones for Diddy, Twenty Stone, for Jim Ashton etc and we would go out in the morning and catch the lot in time to be in the pub by 12 ( We had to because the pubs closed at 3)
Now if you catch three mackerel you have had a good day.
But the amount of people on Soma, are still telling me that this was 'Just a bad year'
I read a couple of other fishing sites on the web and for the first time put on a thread or two, but got slaughtered. Talk about Nero fiddled while Rome burns, that lot did not want to know, care,or have an interest in what's going on.
I had a few replies such as ' You are talking rubbish that there is overfishing, we had 7 Smoothhounds last week'
A very intelligent person once replied to a previous thread that I put on this site that trying to get fishermen together was like trying to 'herd cats'
Best reply I have ever heard.
So let's all make our appointment at the doctors for our Soma tabs and all pretend that it isn't happening.
Mind you if you do manage to achieve sticking your own head up your own tit , then I suggest you insert a television screen as well , because what you pay monthly to watch is shxte , so you may as well sit on the beach and catch bugger all anyway, before you go home and have your frozen, pree battered, tasteless , cod and chips from the local supermarket.
Rant over
TOF

Ian
Basically I think TOF is telling us that Mackerel are going to become extinct through Commercial overfishing - I personally concur whole heartedly

Cheers for the post TOF I’m inclined to agree with it – and until we stop behaving like a herd of cats, the situation will continue. There are suggestions of course, that the shoals have simply moved to follow the food, I know the sand eel population is in decline on the South coast, not peculiar to the mackerel – yet perhaps indicative of the general scheme of things …… Personally, I’ve found them scattered in hard to get to places, nothing like the feeding shoals I knew as a kid. Maybe it is over trawling, maybe it’s something else – but as soon as no-one listens to posts like yours anymore – we’ve all had it ………

If so such a response is not surprising since their fishing tends to be done with large vessels and large nets (and I'm not talking about flagons and dropnets). As for cats, well they are probably smarter than your correspondents. Probably a better metaphor would be herding fish with their heads cut off.

Well at least the thread got a reaction!
The thing is that, I know I harp on about overfishing, and you may not want to hear it ,,,,,but, we can't ignore it.
There's bugger all out there this season and it isn't getting any better.
Just look at the price of fish in the shops.
I put on these occasional rants because I care.
Unfortunately when I was younger and could have been doing something about it I didn't give a toss.
The Oceans are massive and the fish were plentiful .
I have never understood the commercial quota system, where dead fish are thrown overboard.
Perhaps someone on the site could explain the logic of this to me.
Also I was talking to a chap who was doing a survey for some government department, with all the hi tech gear, and they came across piles of dead mackerel dumped on the sea bed. Apparently they were caught for the supermarket trade but were too small, so over the side!
If I pee people off by harping on and on , well so be it, but at least it gets people yarning on the site, hopefully a few more will join in regardless of their opinion of me or what I write.
PS 10/ 10 for the anagram of the site I went on, the fishing equivalent of Seph Blatter and FIFA

Carry on harping TOF. Fish stocks are bad and it's hard to see things improving much, if at all. That view gets no sympathy over at World Loonybin of course, although, to rephrase Ian Dury, it's easy enough to baffle their kind with a well stocked mind, but then you get banned.

The thing is to get people talking about it.
Then they start thinking about it, and the one thing that any government doesn't want is for the population to start thinking about important things and then asking questions about them.
Hence why the tabloids are full of such stories as 'Killer Spider elopes with Cheryl Kole after Jungle Bust Up. A close source said that the spider entrapped her, but pictures of their steamy romance will be on the web soon'
What chance has overfishing got against that?

Incidentally ,did you know that Mitsubishi have around 40,000 tons of Blue Fin Tuna frozen at -60 c as an investment for when the Tuna is so commercially overfished that it will be no longer viable to catch anymore.
Therefore their frozen stocks will be worth a fortune.
I wonder at what species will be targeted next as a frozen investment?
But that's just me upsetting people as it doesn't concern us as Blue Fin Tuna don't come to our shores.
But they used to!
The Scarbourgh Tuna fishing was quite a big thing back in the 1930s , but then the Herring were fished out so the Tuna stopped coming here.
Now the Mackerel have gone the same way, I wonder what other fish that used to feed on them will go the same way?
