I went fishing with a chum of mine today .
we had a bet on who 'caught' the heaviest fish.
I have known the lying ,cheating, mistrustful , little weasel for over 50 years, ( good friend of mine)
But today, he pulled one on me that was so below the belt that I was ashamed that I did not think of it.
Or did he?
Now we were fishing off the wall near a well known pub in the West Wight. As the fishing was not surprisingly dull we adjourned to the hostelry for a Xmas libration , leaving my friends grandson watching the rods.
Upon our return my 'chum' pulled in his line and had 'caught' a 7 lb Dead Salmon .
Strangely there was a Morrison's wrapper in the car for 'a 3.5 kg Salmon, 'on special offer at 3.99 a kilo. ( I worked it out in pounds and ounces! )
Now call me Mr Suspicious, but I think that my cheating mate bribed or blackmailed his grandson grandson to reel in his line and then hook the afore long dead Salmon on his line before walking along the beach and throwing the fish back in.
Soooo what is the rules on this?
Do landed fish in a comp have to be alive?
Do they have to be reasonably caught in that area?
( This is why he chose a farmed Salmon, you can tell by the tail) just to spike me up!!
But he said said that he reeled the fish in, and as he had been with me all day he couldn't have rigged it and the fact that a farmed Scotish Salmon had escaped , swum to the IOW and then died after swallowing my mates bait , was not his problem!!
So what is the ruling on landing dead fish??
If this was a real comp, and reeling in you genially hooked a dead fish such as the Tuna that washed into Freshwater Bay, could you weigh it in?
I have been on Google but can find nothing.
Its not the 2 oz of backy on this bet, but the fact that after all these years, he can put one over me
Answers Please before I have to pay the snout!
i honestly don't know the answer as back in the day when we had all night comps, I have caught fish that were dead on arrival as I had fallen asleep while they were gut hooked and I weighed them in.
