So, in the middle of enjoying 2 weeks off it did not skip my attention that we'd had nothing but easterlies/dodgy weather that had kyboshed the yak dangling in Sandown bay. After picking the brains of a few more experienced yak danglers for spots that could be fished in different winds i plumbed for a spot off ryde i'd never tried before.
What the buggers could've mentioned was how much of a balls ache it was dragging a fully laden yak over a sandbank in full gear/drysuit!!
On my paddle out i saw something a wee bit interesting and enticing.....
Nets!!
What to do, what to do......
Still, back to the dangling. My first anchor up just resulted in this critter
From the power of facebook (i uploaded a pic) Tony (Wavechief) told me i needed to be a tad further out so, i moved....
I'd armed myself with 3 rods, 2 light rods with worm for plaice and a bigger rod with squid/eels for thornies.
I'd just settled in, munching into my sanger when the bigger rod started nodding in typical raymond fashion. I gave it a minute and lifted into what felt a good fish and, it was!!
Rebaited, dropped it down just in time to see/feel the lighter rod behind me tickle my ear, this was a much better fish and on very light gear too, it took a while to surface during which time both the other rods were biting too.... But finally....
A very good thornie, but i couldn't hang around as thornie 3 was due up!!
I'm not sure if the other bite was a ray as after i'd missed it (took too long catching/playing the others) the bait, after it came back up was totally un-chewed. I missed a couple of suspiciously bream light rattles and what should've been another ray but i somehow missed that too and that was it. In a 4 hour trip the spot fished mentally for just 20 minutes then went completely dead. Wind, weed and impending daddy duties caused an early sessation in festivities but well chuffed with the days return in what was a, for me, a virgin spot and a good alternative to Sandown and Shanklin.
Ciao for now
