I know that the OldFart was a bit of a moaning sod, trust me I really do know,but....
He told me that he put a post on another site,I think it could have been called World Sea Fishing or some such ,about how the fish stocks had declined in his lifetime.
I think it was called Watching the Whales ,and he had put it on this site before.
He got slaughtered on that site, people saying how wrong he was and how there are still loads of fish out there. After a few days they took the post off as he was accused of being a 'Trouble Maker'
Well I have been fishing in boats with the old man since the 50s, and this year if he ever needed proving right just go out.
there is nothing out there, no Mackerel ,Bass, Garr nothing, and all those idiots who slagged him off are probably still sticking their heads up their own backsides saying that it is just a bad year etc.
I did wonder if the ones that slagged him off were Charter Boat Owners ,Tackle Shop Owners or just ignorant.
There again perhaps I am turning into a cynical old sod like he was?
No on second thoughts I am like him, but at least he gave a fxxxx, they don't .

Certainly on the mackerel front it's noticeable, i've found a fair few gars though and the ray are about in usual numbers. I seem to remember the mackerel were late last year too and when they did show up they were fairly dinky in size

The site you refer to is known to most as WTF - looks like it's toned down a bit - new broom and all that - difficult to get a rise out of them these days (though some of us still occasionally try)
As for the fish - I could try blaming global warming - the gulf stream etc - but the trawlers are still making a living (just). There was a boat netting Mullet in Poole harbour the other day, right under my line. Guess things are getting desperate .....
I'm upping sticks and moving to Anglesey soon - maybe the fishing will be better up there .......

WSF used to have a terrible reputation due to the presence of various obnoxious bigheads. I am told that it has improved lately but have not visited personally as I prefer this site and sea-fishing.org. It's true that the fishing has been lousy for the past couple of years or so but things do change and we don't always know why. For instance, the eel population almost disappeared a while back but now seem to be returning going by my night adventures in Langstone harbour.

It was easy enough to bamboozle those blockheads with words, and myself and Sunny did on occasions, but the really stupid mods would delete your posts. But things are different now: the site finally woke up to the fact that a bunch of fruitcakes was bad for business. Mind you, still the odd commercial propagandist hangs on there, but now given short shrift by the new moderators. Some sound conservationists there now but I haven't gone back to contributing. There was a mad wsf refugee here for a while but he's gone.
