Hi , although there are many types of tip light I prefer the little hearing aid battery type ones even tho once I destroyed my entire amount of the effers by thinking I was being smart immersed them in a shaving foam lid filled with electrical cleaner all was well and I was feeling rather proud of myself until about an hour later the whole lot disintegrated the fluid had degraded and destroyed the plastic anyhoo after replacing them lesson learnt now I only give them a quick spray and dry off , the thing I have found that sometimes in damp conditions the go dim on me so was wondering about using a bit of petroleum jelly round the battery lid but after the disaster above was thinking that the petroleum based product might again degrade the plastic , soooooooo am think maybe using silicon grease instead ,has anyone on here got any tips on what they do to get the best from these little suckers ,cheers Ps happy Christmas to all on here and it is nearly time to decide getting more fishing trips in the new year coming promises promises I know

Hi after putting the memories post on about TOF, I must admit I am starting to take an interest in this site, and can see why he did .
with regard to your question, about rod tip lights. I know what TOF would have said.
1, Hold the bloody rod Nipper.
2, use a bell , they only ring when you get a bite, and if you ain't looking you can hear it.
mind you as it was drummed into me time and time again, 'If you ain't holding your rod you have missed the fish'
Normally this was said as his rod was propped up while he was conducting a cook up over a driftwood bonfire.
allways put a bell on the rod though
TOF Nipper
