Yes, even though i think the tide is lower on the old picture, their is never that much shingle in front of that bit of wall. When the sand and stones are scowerd away, you can jusr see the remains of the old groynes!

Ok here is another of the needles lighthouse, shame i have no idea of the date (looks to be around the 20`s/30`s), but the new one was taken last year from andys boat during a fruitful mackerel session!note the chalk fall to the right of the light on the new pic! ;D

Was permanently manned in those days - some job ! When did that stop Dave ? I think it was the sixties or seventies. Keep 'em coming .

The needles was automated in 1994, one of the last i think! I remember giving the keepers a wave now and then on the way past. Many fishermen used to pull alongside the light steps and give the keepers newspapers and milk ect, they loved that.

Nice to see these Dave. It looks like the fall to the right of the light was evident even in the old one - maybe a bit smaller is all.

Though i do have a vague memory of seeing the fresh fall in the early 90`s when i worked on a boat. We would pass there every day so anything different would always stand out. Looks like it has been falling little by little for a long while

Would be good if you could dig out the pics mate. I done a search for `old isle of wight photographs`....found a few sites, and have saved around 100 of them. My dad used to collect old photos, pity he could not have seen the Internet resources of today, as he would have loved it. Maybe try a search for your area......

I can even remember my dad taking me up to the top in the lift - I cried all the way up ! Then it fell into disuse and dereliction and the council had it pulled down. That was late sixties / early seventies. Now it would probably be regarded as a treasure of classic 'modernist' 1930's architecture !
