Need some picture posting practice so as i can't catch anything over here thought i'd show you what I got over there. A litle trip in The Bay of Islands near Auckland, New Zealand. One's a Red Snapper, answers on a postcard for the other one! This one put up a good fight. No Comments about the dodgy sunglasses please!

It definately wasn't an Australian salmon, we caught a few of them and the skipper said chuck them all back because they were a poor eating fish. We ate all the snappers though, with chips from the chippy! Thats lazy backpackers for ya!

The first one's a snapper, not a red snapper. The other is a kahawai (pronounced kah-why). They call them australian salmon in Oz (shows what they know).
They aren't too bad to eat BUT, bleed them quickly, fillet them (chuck away the dark meat) soak in milk for a bit then cook. Or smoke them. Or chuck them away and eat the snapper. Probably a bit late to tell you that though.
The kahawai is a decent size for livebait for kingfish.
