hi andy we have a non marinised one(T6,354.) in our boat lift at work with 5000+ hours on it and iv only had the head off once early on in its life, but since then its been perfect, your one is a T6,3544 and the extra number is added to indicate mods to the engine, ie .marinisation iv also so seen a few in oysters yachts and some other big one off type yachts, apart from the little oil leaks and water leaks thay are pritty good lumps. one major thing to watch out for is leaks on the end caps of the the heat exchanger, if thay are left to leak for to long thay where a track in to the ally casting , which is mega bucks. also again on the heat exchanger watch for pitting around any caps and joints. if you see any it could get expencive again. last one i changed cost the owner about £1500 becouse the exhust manifold is part of it, maintaince is cheap, with most service parts readly availble, as for horse power il have a look in the work shop manual, but i think dave is about right at 165 hope that helps cheers john

whats the difference with a marinised engine hi tp the main difference is the cooling system is changed so the engine cools its anti-freeze with the sea water in a "heat exchanger" insted of air like in your car rad the water is pumped though the heat exchanger with a impeller pump, if you like you could say that its replacing the fan on a car other wise the are couple of small differences like more stain less steel bolts and anodes to protect from corrosion but apart from the cooling system not alot of difference

id say the perkins will be a fair bit bigger, in hight more so than width, but that would depend on how its been marinised

the only price i sore was £4,000 for a 6 pot base engine which cover from a 212-320hp
the best thing to do give them a ring
the other option which my mate did a couple of times is to go to a brackers yard for trucks ,pick a truck with the engine you want ,drive it a round the yard if you want it ,they will take it out then and there ,the last couple he bought cost him £500 each plus £180 for a complete set of gasgets
