After buying a boat that has been anti-fouled because it was on a mooring & the intention was for it to now be stored on a trailer after scrubbing off the existing anti-foul what would be the correct treatment? would it need to be painted in anything specific? Cheers

pete,i scraped the anti-foul off my hull, and just use it as it is. although they must have used sand paper to slightly roughen the gel-coat as it now has a dull finish.

Cheers Karl, yes - mine's much the same, the previous owner used a really good anti foul which was grey so I'm left with a wishy-washy grey over white finish after its scrubbed but no doubt it'll be fine. I've just got a bargain tin of International 'Interspeed Ultra' anti-foul so I might re-coat with that. Cheers

if your using your boat from a trailer you don`t really want any sort of antifoul on the bottom. If the gel coat is now dull from scraping off the old stuff then i would sand down the hull with wet & dry untill it is very smooth. Start with somthing like 600 grit and work down to finer grades till you can hardly see any scratches. You may need to ues a random orbital sander. You then need to re-polish it with a compound like Farecla G3 and a electric polisher and your hull will be like new. Its a bit of hard work but your boat should then fly through the water. It`s easier to do if you can get the boat on a cradle so the boat is higher off the ground rather than try to do it on a trailer.

Cheers Alan, I'm familiar with the Farecla G3 (too familiar!) amazing stuff though!
Yeh, the antifoul removal & hull cut & polish is definetly a job that would benefit from a hoisted position, I'm not looking forward to any work we do on the underside whilst on the trailer but unfortunately we dont have any lifting services where we are. Thanks for the advice, much appreciated! Pete
