hi all just wondering if anyone can help,my engine is a 1981 johnson 70hp elptt(no rev counte)my boat is 20ft fishing boat which we estimate to way all up about 1 ton max(proberly not that heavy thou)the problem i get is that when i put the throttle down it picks up fine with a little bit to spare but then when pushed all the way down the engine seems to die down and the boat goes slower slightly(getting 18k beforethe die down)i run on pre-mix and a 13 3/4 x 15 prop, is the engine to small for the boat as some one has said or do i need to change the pitch on the prop(going to get a rev counter asap so i can find out what revs i`m doing) any help or advise would be very grateful

get a revcounter first, because you will then be able to see if you are getting max revs. 70hp wont make your 20footer a speed boat but it should get you there and back easily enough
