Buying another boat after 10 years without one!
Thinking on the lines of an Alaska 500 and would appreciate any information including things to look out for, are there any inherant weaknesses etc. Also would like to hear views on how they perform as an angling platform. I'm not a complete novice, but its been along time prevoiusly I had two wilsons (17 & 23).

Hi I have a short report by Jim Whippy on my web site, see my signature for link, but the design of the Alaska is a bit old now and it might be worth looking for a newer design. Explorer Elite, which is now defunct manufacture, was/is a good boat as is teh Endevour which is currently available but both cheaper than the Warrior. Seahog boats are also good value Good luck in your search Regards Dave

The Alaska may be an old design but it was (is) a good one and there are plenty about secondhand and affordable. Not the same availability with modern Warriors and the like. I had an Alaska 500 and it was great - huge space for the length, and always felt secure. I could launch and retrieve single-handed with a roller-coaster trailer. Things to look out for are the same as with any grp boat, particularly any water under the sealed floor, damage to the bottom chine if they have not fitted a metal strip; waterlogged transom core caused by unsealed holes or bad repairs; underpowered outboard ( needs 50 really).
