Good thread! Decent tool kit - wire cutting pliers, small screwdriver, cable ties, AA batts, electrical tape, WD40, spare spark plugs & spare fuses in case of electronic failure.... Does anyone keep a knife near the anchor rope in case of needing to cut free in an emergency?

for saftey its my phone, life jackets, spare anchor, small back up engine....ect for fishing, its one of these www.havetheedge.co.uk/ brillant bits of kit for pulling the fish in, only problem can bring dogs in as well and for my small brain, 10 cans of cold stella or strong bow in the summer.....lol the most usfull thing for me with a very old engine is sea start recovery, although i fix engines all week long, with an outboard its 2 easy to drop bits in the water while bouncing around and realy f**k your day up. iv used them twice in 5 years once it was cos a plastic bag round my water in take and burnt the impeller out and the other time was bad fuel and i was not going to strip my carbs hanging over the back.

Not much room in my boat for non essentials, but always carry a compass and mobile to back up the GPS and VHF. Usually carry a food flask holding a nice hot curry. Keeps me going on cold days.
Anchor is already attached to a buoy and runs through a fairlead with a loop over a cleat. If I need to loose the anchor, I unhook it and through it over the side.

a 25 ltr camping water storage container. Took off the tap, glued in a Gardina hose fitting and filled it with fresh water. Attach a 4ft bit of garden hose to it with a flush muff on one end. Use it to run up the outboard while I'm waiting on the slip. When its empty I use it as a seat on the way out. When I get there it becomes my anchor buff! Thought that through didn't I?
