I have a 15ft dory with 50hp Tohatsu 2stroke on the back. The boat has served its purpose as I have enjoyed some good fishing from it. I am now thinking of changing it and would like a boat that is no more than 16.5ft and on a trailer that is easy to get in and out of the water with a 4stroke engine that will push the boat along at around 25knots without thrashing it. I would like to be able to stand up in the boat without the fear of the next big wave making me feel like I am going to fall overboard ;D
So my question is to everyone is what boat and engine package would you reccomend ?
I look forward to your posts. Many thanks Keith

Most of the orkney/warrior/samurai type boats with a 60hp four stroke would do what you want. The only thing I would say is that in some of the short seas we get around the solent and IOW 25 knots can be quite uncomfortable in these small lightweight boats. Before you make your mind up try and get a ride out on the various different hull shapes with people who already own them, and you'll get an idea of what they all handle like. As an example, my mate has a 16ft samurai that potentially can travel at 28 knots. I have a 17ft hardy that flat out does 22 knots. I generally cruise at around15 knots, which is most often faster and more comfortable than him because his boat shakes everything to near death in anything other than a flat sea.

a hardy 17 fishing. They are a bit squatter than yours, with a smaller cuddy and slightly more cockpit. Absolutely bullet proof though, for a boat of 17 ft it feels loads bigger and safe. Only have a yam 40 two stroke on it. Cruises nicely at 15 knots with no slamming. Not as economical as a four stroke but I work it out at roughly 1 litre per mile, about 18 litres an hour I guess. I dont know what is normal for an outboard of that size but seems ok to me.
