Most 3 section rods ive used/seen are fairly soft through actioned but are superb for storing in car boots out of harms way. Uses are many fold, apart from extremely long casting and are generally composite in structure. 2 piece rods that ive handled so far are in the main a more solid tippy action, suitable for general purpose fishing and better casting distance. They seem to have a higher carbon content which strenghtens rigidity and helps to hold up better in highwind/waves. although there not so easy to transport in cars. Given the choice i would go for 2 piece everytime, although im sure others may have their opinion. Gazza

a three piece is a good travel rod but there can be a couple more problems with them than a 2 piece a 2 piece is generally more reliable but can be a bit awkward when traveling hope this helps

I have both, the two piece has a slightly better action but I still prefer three piece for transporting and carrying on me bike. Let's face it, most fishing doesn't need that long a cast and anyone casting 200 yds is possibly casting past the fish.

Err No not necessarily, plenty of places which are just out of the reach of even good casters are very productive ask anyone who does a bit of Kayak fishun. Mind you 200yd casters with bait? I would imagine they could be counted on the fingers of one foot. As Skatenchip said its horses for courses, unfortunately as with most things in life the tool that will do all jobs dont exist. You need to match what you use to what you want it to do.

ive gone to 3 piece rods from the standard 2 piece. but thats because i now use 14ft rods instead of the standard 12ft. the main advantage is the 3 piece is much better for storing when on the move like thats already been said. but i find them easier to cast but thats proberly due to the extra length. on casting distance id rather be able to cast 200 yards (in my dreams) than not as at least you can cast closer if thats where the fish are but someone who can only cast 100 yards wont find the fish if there further out. being able to cast a long way is a massive advantage

Hello mate this is my theory of what i heard i know a friend who has a 3 or 4 piece rod for is bike when he had it i got told if your fishing local you might as well just go for the 2 piece it will have allot more action in it than the 3 piece cause most 3 piece rods iv seen are carbon straight thro and very stiff i know some one who fishes right outside his house and have a 3 piece rod i think why? he doesn't fish any wear else sept ryde pear. hope this helps mate!
