nice boats especially if you cut the cabin back (sheltie style) what engine do you use? iv got a 29 year old 50hp mercury on the back, luckley im a marine spanner monkey so i can keep it running at it ripe old age, but saying that iv not have many problems . in realality she probaly only has 30-40 hp left in the engine :'(but she cruise at 20kn and maxs out at 25kn, as for cutting back the cabin i cant realy do that as it will decress the strenth in the hull and mean when i do come to change the engine, i cant go for the max size of 75hp which is my plan, when i find a bargin or fall lucky of some money

very intersting, just out of intrest how much did you cut it back by ? when you say unstable was it chining (bounceing side to side on its chine) or giving out prop torque (boat leaning over to 1 side with power incress)

What are they like in a following sea chaps? they do cork screew quite abit (flat bottom and outboard is a recipe for it), but if i can get away with it i just open it up and try to skim the tops and get away from the following sea, does that make sence

I see that mate, I think if the sea is within reason, getting the boat faster than the swell/waves helps no end. I know if the bow starts pushing to much water with a wave up the ass, things get........a little scary!!! heh heh

know what you mean, iv s**t myself a few times. the bow will lift if you time it right and open the power right up, but its easyer said than done when fighting the with the wheel one thing that scares my misses and me some times, is when at anchor and the big ships go past, as the wash can come over the back , some times i can put a sturn anchor out to postion the boats bow toward the channel, but not always posable

hi monkey nuts, 9 foot 10" from steering bulkhead to transom.i beefed up the transom with ply and fibreglass untill the transom was 65mm thick.i also made a new washwell which i coppied off a sheltie.the new bulkhead was made out of resin board with a screen on top of the cabin roof which i heated and bent round the sides, the screen was clear plastic the same stuff that they now use in bus shelters. all in i used 20 square meters of fibre glass 600 grade 100 litres of resin 10 litres of gell coat. it was a heavy boat which seemed to make it run better than a sheltie, but it seemed to flit from side to side when you got above 30 knots. i will try to find some pictures and put them on here.

some times i can put a sturn anchor out to postion the boats bow toward the channel, but not always posable Maybe try using a drogue anchor for doing that, keeps the boat nice and steady in the tide. They can be a pain space wise when you have a few rods over, but they beat the wind direction in favor of the tide (if the wind isn't to strong)

just the job. and its given me an option , and now im in two minds if i need such a big engine. the main reson on the engine size was less rev to hit same speeds = less fuel ,
chining is one thing i dont like at speed, never feels like you have any control. just befor xmas i worked on a rib with twin 300hp yanmars in it , sounds like fun ..........................no, f*****g scary at 53 kn my pants were full to the brim as it went side to side on it spray rails
