go to www.ofcom.org.uk its free for life ;D if you have a dsc radio they will send you a code number for your radio ,so if you have to use it the coastgaurd has all your boat details if they ask to see a licence and you dont have one you could get a £5000 fine

You still need to attend a VHF operators course to get a license which costs about £70

I`m told that you can use a vhf for safety use without a licence (i`m sure you wont get nicked for shouting SOS) but you need one for chatting on the chat channels. You are only asked your id when telling the coast guard of your ETA safety request.

my free license arrived this morning. its just a pitty that there is no tax disc style license anymore its now a few sheets of paper that you carry with you

i did the r.y.a radio coarse about a mouth a go and sent for my licence three weeks ago still have not had any thing back

I didnt have to fill a form in , the licence just arrived through the post when i was due to renew it.
