I've got a pack of 4 in my bag mate (£2.10) but dont feel confident enough to use them. My Mrs uses them and does alright on small stuff, but no better than me on normal hooks. I dont like the way the point sits half covered with a bait on. Kamasan B940M 2-1/0 good small worm hook.V sharp. Mustad Aberdeen Silver 1/0-3/0 Big worm bait hook. Blunts easily. Mustad Ultrapoint Viking 1/0-5/0 sharp, strong hook general purpose. (my fav) Mustad Ultrapoint ultimate 3/0-4/0 good hook for crab.Curved shank sits up well on a pennel with laccy. Fox trebles- sharp as you can get.
Will have a look at the partridge hooks you use for this year. Just looked at the sea beast on Partridges website-that is one heavy hook.

The circle hooks were designed for long lines. The idea was that the fish hooked themselves and couldn't shake the hook. I have never had the balls to use them either, but i have seen good bass landed on them. Also, i hear they are good for fishing shallow ledges, as they never get snagged. Sod that, nothing wrong with `j`hooks!

I've used the semi circles (from Veals) when float fishing at Samphire Hoe and they are great for lip hooking fish, the only problem I found is that the eyes are too big to be able to slide worms up the line, but for fish strip and squid baits they work fine!

Must be able to cobble up a hair rig of sorts to make use of these hooks. You can see how they pull in as the fish moves off but they dont suit my cramming it on type of baiting.

A few of us used them on the boat last year & thought they were good, I dont know if it guaranteed us anymore fish but neat lip hooks were guaranteed. Also those runs we all seem to suffer like the fish has picked the bait up, ran then simply drop it seemed to result in more hook ups with the circles.

Out of interest do you fish with light drag as to let it run when it takes the bait or up against a set drag and use a quick strike?

My understanding is (although I've not used them yet), is that your not supposed to strike - something I would have to really train myself not to do with bass. Is this the case ?

Thats interesting, I dont strike on anything ? ie. any hook, any fish ... my theory is all you are doing is pulling against a fixed lead (unless a pulley rig of course) so seems you will gain nothing or am I wrong ? Interested to know what others do ...

Have used them to good effect with Black Bream mini squid siz1 hook , Bream tend to be a bit hit and run, seemed to hook themselves , had a very good hook up rate, far better than, j hooks, not used them for anything else tho.

I seldom strike either, most of the time I have the rods up and whatever comes along tends to hook itself, having said that when I have held a rod for bites ( bass in fishing in particular) I have noticed that you often get a small bite before the rod pulls around. Perhaps I should be striking earlier!!

The bream around here take a 4/0 `J`hook no probs. They are like piranhas!!!!!
