Just a quick recommendation for anyone in my area (Gosport, Lee, Fareham etc.) or visiting - seeking rod repairs.
Took a rod with a broken butt ring into Daves Tackle in Gosport. Within a week it was ready, sporting a quality new ring - very professionaly whipped on and varnished. You wouldn't know !
Total cost £4.25
I was quite prepared to do it myself but worked out, by the time I had bought the ring, whipping thread, varnish etc. - it would have cost me more ! And no doubt would not have been such a good looking job either.

Blimey mate at £4.25 that's a no-brainer! I tried doing it myself once, it was a right lash-up! It's a lot more difficult than it looks.

Yes, I made a few rods up years ago - buying the blanks and building them myself. Quite enjoyable but fiddly and time consuming. I never got the finish that a pro with proper tools (and skill) would.

I have a mate that does all the rods/reels for our local tackle shop. I cut out the middle man and take my stuff strait to him. I had my whole rod done for a tenner last year, although i supplied the rings it was a bargain and a damn good job too boot! I tried doing a few rings myself over the years and made a discovery........I CANT DO IT!!
