Over the last few fishing sessions it has become very very clear that braid is not very good for beach casting in rough conditions. Although the bite indication is second to none I don't like trotting 7oz of lead down the beach . Time has come for the mono to return so I'm after some recommendations on a good casting line. I use a fixed spool reel so I can't go using tow rope as I still need to be able to cast. I am looking for something that is supple but still abrasion resistant, I guess that I'm looking for something in the 15lb bracket. I have read about profish ghost line being very very abrasion resistant has anyone used it? Cheers Steve

www.gofishingshop.co.uk/static/prod/sea-fishing-tackle-line-nite-crystal.htmlHave a quick glance at this site.........i have read a few good reports on this mono but have not found any suppliers in the middlesex/surrey area. i have been using Ultima red ice on the spool so far (15lb) but am having doubts now as to its longevity. Seems to feel a bit brittle,i have put new line on from the same jumbo spool but im not sure...!!!! Ill watch this with interest too... Gaz

suffix tritainuim, black ice which is (clear), i use 18lb. The probs you had the other night were exactly what I had the stuff is completely useless when fishing really rough weather like Saturday, the wave action just pulls your lead out cause there is no cushion which you get with mono, glad you have seen the light! Ghost line is OK but in my opinion the ultima black ice is a lot better, if your going in for some bass fishing I would try to stick to a clear colour, the red ice i have found unbreakable but have no confidence when bass fishing cause of the colour!

I also use red ice which I found be quite good for fixed spool and multipliers, but to be honest some line as been on certain spools for years and I still use it.The other reels it is not on long enough to matter, what with crack offs, lost tackle and the line is so cheap. It is recomended you change your line once year.

I was give a spool of red ice a few years back as my mate found it a bit dry on his multies. I found it great on my egg beaters and i think i left it on for 2 seasons without trouble. Good tough line!

Cheers,
I have read a few good things about the Ice lines. Coming from fishing fresh water the thought of putting bright red or yellow lines on my fishing rods is a little Weird to say the least. I can't carry on using braid it drives me mad when the lead lifts and goes walkabout. The only problem is the diameter difference and loosing yards of the long chucks. Oh well I'll just have to tell the mrs that I need to go more to practice the casting ;D
Do you know if sea lines are the same a freshwater lines and just re badged or are they made up differently?
Cheers
Steve

Maxima chameleon does everything I ask of it. Lays well on the spool multi or fixed and comes of the spool well when casting. Good level of stretch and very abrasion resistant. Not expensive and lasts well too. High knot strength with blood or grinner knots.

Thanks for all your help. I've looked at the Ultima website and as the black and red ice are the same except colour, I've gone for the clear one in 15lb
Cheers
