got a slosh 20, and i'm wondering if there's any way to speed it up ? it flies off to begin with, and then suddenly slows dramatically, ie i watch it climb nicely, then it just falls from the top of the arc, i'm struggling to get a decent range, i've not looked inside a slosh yet, but is there any way of speeding it up? i've already got the end float thing set so it's as fast as i can make it without being silly, was outcasting it by at least 50yrds with my mag elite today, slosh .40 diam, abu .37 diam, casting with wind behind me (ie helping !)
cheers in advance. Hugh

Hi Mr Plums, Some bloke called Neil Mackellow has done a section on tuning both SLOSH's here: neilmackellow.sea-angler.org/reel_tuning.htmlHe seems to know what he's talking about First port of call would be to take the end panel off and check you're using the smaller of the 2 provided brake blocks. If it's still too slow you only choice is either to remove the blocks (you're on your own here!) or soak the bearings to remove the old oil and put some real thin oil on. New SLOSH's seem to come with no brake blocks fitted Good luck! Steve.

Take the bearings out, flush with lighter petrol, do NOT spin bearings at this stage, place on kitchen towel to dry for 5mins and add some yellow rocket fuel(only a drop dont flood) and leave on towel so it sucks the oil through. What i do is add red rocket fuel and lose 1 brake block. Supplied when you buy these reels usual are 3 sizes of brake block if you got the red there large(i think) you want the black ones and the clear ones are for micro baits in no wind! TG'S rocket fuel comes in yellow(fast)red(fishing)liquid grease(fishing big bait n wind!) I use a egg cup to flush bearings through, its a process I do to all my reels every 3 months.... It could be over oiled and massive brake blocks or it could be ya casting so treat yourself to a new rod too just in case ;D

Forgot to add your float control should be set so there is just a bit of side to side movement when out of gear, its not for casting control, use oils for this, best is tg's rocket its designed for high volicety and all ways returns to its original make up after been spun at 1000x rpm where as cheaper oils can break up after a while, resulting in screaming bearings /over runs its £4.95 for a small bottle I have every colour and bought them 7 yrs ago and they will last another 7 years...............

thanks for the mackellow link,
nick, i like the new rod idea !!! i'll have a look into it, and see whats in there when i have no distractions about me (kids !),
another thing, the screw that holds the handle on, is knackered, how can i remove this without perhaps drilling it out, any tips ?

i found the prob when i used the reel the other night, first cast was fine, outta sight ! second cast got about 100yrds then stopped dead and fell to sea, opened the end plate to discover a pair of chewed up red brake block, new ones will be fitted this week, so it'll be back to itself again, thanks for all the advice,
ps, just ordered a sl20shv !

I cant hear enough good words about the slosh. I may get one to have a play with in the winter to see if some range can get me that cod.
