What are your favoured patterns and sizes for different situations? I quite like the mustad viking spearpoint (bronze) for pennell rigs and squid in the 4/0 size, very sharp and strong.A single hook is good for mackie fillet and crab when used with elastic. Aberdeens in 2/0 -3/0 for general fishing with big worm baits and limpet. 1/0 for scratching and flatfish. Jury is still out on circles.

8/0 sea beasts for my bass on dead baits squid, mac, cuttle. mac head i now use a pennel 6/0 and 3/0 but smallest hook at the bottom, mustad bln's for rays beach n boat , cox n rawle uptide extra's for live baiting bass in at least 3/0 n up, and I use5/0 vikings for crab, did use the alan yates hooks but have had two 8/0's break to eels on the boat and i notice the barb if your fishing over rocks only last for 1 maybe 2 casts n its bent!! as for circle hooks had a side by side test, results were 7 to j hooks 2 to circles, my theory is a bass ,strikes, picks up ,turns n runs, all of this has to be achieved on a light light drag and not sure but i think circle hooks work on the fish banging it down in one and coming up to a tight drag. ok from beach but not from above(pier, boat), they just never hooked up for me and a paid £3 for 4 hooks!!!!!! have had other species on circles no prob but for me i hate them for bass...

I done a fair bit of experimenting with circle hooks from the boat this summer & I was really impressed, some good fish caught & the only missed ones were those that we struck by mistake, all fish lip hooked other than one 7lb bass. I found the 'owner' circles excellent

I like Varivas bigmouth bass hooks in 3/0 4/0 for the pennel rigs, kamasan 940's in 2 - 2/0 for all round fishing, varivas saltwater champions in 3 - 1, these are extremely sharp and strong, good for Pollock down the wall on the prince of wales pier, dover. And size 6 940's for dab and sole fishing, with a 10 - 12lb flouro hooklenght.
