On my visit to the new forest, the fella I brought the conoflex rod from advocates casting with coasters in the low down position. I tried to hold the rod in this position, but found it at 13ft 2in a bloody hard prospect. He holds the rod about 2.5 ft up the butt in his right hand and uses that as the fulcrum point to generate power. and obviously controls the reel bout 3ins up the bottom butt. he told me that coasters or movable reel seats are a personal preference...and I will picka fav in time. how do you guys cast.....up.....down....coasters.....reel seats and the advantages of one over another. also when reeling in....he places the butt in his stomache in low position and reels in guiding the line on with thumb and fore finger. incidently he doesnt use an extension..whatever its called. thanks for any help cheers Gaz

Casting with the reel down just makes the cast slower and when reeling in a reducer is placed at the bottom of the rod to give a bit of leverage. The best way to go is reel; down. If you find this is to heavy a leverage for you to cast and reel in, the reel up is quite okay. I used th cast with the reel down, kompressor sport, but now find the rod to heavy I use a 12ft cod 5 which is about 40 years old. I hope this as been some help Gaz.

Takes a while to get used to but its good for getting your timing right as you seem to have more time to get it right, if you do go for the low down position SLOW your cast down. I can cast good distances either with the reel in the high or low position but prefer the low postion cause it puts big baits further intact! A butt pad for reeling in is prob a good idea i dont use one and my arms ache after a fishing session.

O.....lol sorry mate confused me there,I thought they were just used for boats.....yer I guess summit like that could be used on the beach. But...I must say,I have never heard of anybody using one other than for winching in sharks,,,,etc I might look a bit odd....reeling in a pout.....lol but I guess a smooth hound or Tope would be fun.!!! cheers Gaz
