I have a 2/4oz Bass rod I could use on a boat for lure fishing but only have a crappy glass 20lb 7ft rod for general species down tide......... I have a little mitchell 622 multi with 25lb mono on..... any ideas on what general purpose rod I could buy to complement it. 2 piece....6/7ft......20 or 30 lb class....carbon blank would summit like that be ok......... I only wanna spend about 75 squid as my main sea hobby is beach work. Any manufactureres names spring to mind fella,s and rod type..... I dont mind buying off fleabay if you think there are bargains to be had in that section on boat rods. cheers Gaz

Hello Gaz, I would whole heartadly recommend the Abu Garcia Suveran 20 - 30lb boat rod. It really is a cracking rod, brand new they'll set you back around £100 so a tackle show or buying 2nd hand would come in well under budget.

Is this the mutha you all referring to..? www.harrissportsmail.com/Models.aspx?PartnerID=4&ModelID=13491who makes this TLD 20 then........ so am I to assume that my poor little mitchell 622 is no good any more.....its still in fantastic condition just an old model....I used it for fun days out of poole and caught spur dogs yrs ago up to 6lb off the kent coast and some good flatties with it. I can hear it in the cupboard getting a complex thinking its gonna go to davy jones locker..lol Gaz

Thats the kiddy Gaz! maybe its time to let the mitchell go.........sniff, sniff, I know I expect it would do fine but a rod of that calibre deserves a reel to match!!! I had a Mitchell 620ap (or was it 602ap?) & a 624, both good reels. Yours must be somewhere in between I suppose. The TLD 20 that Andy spoke of is made by Shimano & are brilliant, I use a quality abu 7000 & a Shimano charter special on mine & they both suit it well.

Looking for a decent all round boat rod & reel to use from charter boats myself and it looks like the ABU suveran 20-30 is popular. As for the reel what about the TLD 15 would this be as useful as the 20?
