ok....lemme get this straight for the dim amoung us.......ie me......yes I did say that..!! as I dont do enuff of either styles of fishing yet to have an "informed" opinion. A modern well constructed multi.....eg 535/slosh 30/etc would not be man enuff to ......... catch smoothies/bass/tope/pollack on a short cast from the shore loaded with 200yds of 25lb line then.......if needs must take it boat fishing for the same species.... cos the line pressure or cranking of heavy leads due to tide run. would kill the reel............... your avin me on............aint yazz.. I must need to get out more..!!!!!!!!!!!!

To be honest, if I ever hook a medium sized tope from a Hayling beach (quite possible), I will just have to let him go because I am usually using a medium sized Okuma FS reel which holds about 250 yds of 20lb BS. On the other hand, the old Shimano TLD15 which I use in the boat holds 300 yds of 30 lb BS (more with braid) and has serious stopping power hence if I hook one out there, he won't get away that easily. Best thing mate is to get a fairly tough FS unless you are going serious wreck fishing when something like the TLD is a must. Don't forget that most pro skippers will rent you a decent rod and reel for about £3 if you are wrecking so why bother.

Ive been using F/S reels for 40yrs so to me the chance of using multi,s is a new skill that I want to use for casting. I already have 3 top quality F/S reels that could hold more than enough strong line to handle big fish from the beach. I would like 2 remaining items to cover my beach and boat needs A decent Beachcasting rod....to go with my 7HT for reasonable distance shore work....providing I get on the the multi of course. and a heavier multi reel slosh 30 etc to go with the nemesis for close quarter big fish fun off the beach....plus to use it for odd occassions off a boat too in shallow water. I dont kid meself.........I wont be using it for wrecking. But the chances of me wrecking this year are slim when im spending all my time learning beach craft. Hence the reason that I wont be spending a £100 on a wrecking reel..........for now anyway.
