;D Hi all, i'm going to Turkey in sept. Thought i might take a cheap tele. rod with me in case i get the chance for a quick dangle. Lathams do a Power pro 10ft. 30- 60gr. cast weight, suit coarse/sea (they say). I'm not familiar with small hook sizes/floats - the locals use cooked chicken/spam like meat for bait mainly and the catches i've seen are small in size. What do you think - any ideas ? -----clive

Take a snorkel and face mask and you'll enjoy it more, alternatively just try for a few mullet in the harbour using coarse fishing tactics and bread crumb groundbait.

Most shore fishermen in the Med use poles and very small hooks because the fish are mainly small and most of the diving that I have done out there I have not seen any thing big except Moray Eels which you don't want to catch.

Hi John, - good idea, they do day & evening trips from where i,m staying-might slip away from the family & give it a go. We did hire a boat last year to go swimming & i did an hours fishing that's what started me thinking about it again - about the same time as i caught a sea bream (not huge but a good meal for one size) think i was more hooked than the fish. ---clive

Hi Clive. Visited Turkey last year (Marmaris) good sport can be had on light tackle around the harbours as previously suggested, be careful on booking the boat trip, went myself last year saw the boat advertised thinking brilliant comfort cold beers and big fish????WRONG turned up on jetty to catch boat and a 28ft clinker type pulled in with canopy over ALL TACKLE SUPPLIED 5ft whips from woolies would been the best description and BAIT was a cup of thin chicken strips and very small shrimp largest fish caught approx 4ins but lots of them. Suggest before you book try and see the boat leaving or coming in before you get ripped off. Yes i did have a good day on the water away from the family chilling out and fishing. WHEN in September are you going and where??? back there myself in September not yet knowing where or when. Keith

Hi mate , just got back from Greece where the locals pole fish for tiddlers ( like canal fishing over here !! ) I had a fox 6 piece with me and tried one afternoon. I got some calamari and some uncooked prawns for bait and after flicking a couple in off the harbour wall got a good look at what the locals where after My mrs spent the next half hour catching them and some of them where quite stunning. that over and a couple of plain looking fish (species unknown) in a bucket for livebait and I was off. Nothing on squid, this scorpionfish on prawn . Followed by this familiar fish on a livebait ;D I guess Turkey would be similar as we were at Tolon in the south pelopponese . I watched the locals fishing to hand with 12m poles using a ball of red paste around a small treble under a waggler. When a ball of fish were attacking the bait they would strike upwards hoping to foulhook one

Hi Daren, thanks for the great pics. only just seen them --haven't been about much for a couple of weeks. I know Tolon - great place have spent hours sitting in a taverna there 2 feet from the waters edge -just watching the fish - and having a sip or two of course --clive
