Never really tried mullet fishing, would appreciate any advice, rigs, good places to go, different types of bait, best way to present, float set ups.
Will use an 8ft spinning rod with 6lb line.
I have read up a bit and i like the idea of using some 'Chum' to attract them, what are the best ingredients.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Time to get ya waders out and get in the water mate. try the confluence of the rivers Stour and avon that come out into Christchurch harbour. The water is brackish...........hence my interest cos you can catch chub AND mullet in the same area small spinner baits with slivers of mack or worm but for groundbait balls of squid and octopus with chopped worms inside . If the water is clear...minced mack with the skin on drip fed in small balls will work. but for me mashed bread is a killer in clear water. good luck. Gaz

Recently I have used a very light ledger approach, rather than float fishing which (early days) appears more effective. Touch ledger and you will soon be able to detect the difference between a bass and mullet bite. You may have to upgrade to a longer rod though, as you will need to pick up the line very quickly. Best bait seems to be bread where I fish.

If ya dont mind feeding them up with a good prolonged bit of ground baiting, then any harbour, or which is easier but can be a little less productive is the beaches at sandown/shanklin/ventnor when its calm to bread on a bubble its an idea to add some kind of attractant to the bread, try close to and around features i.e groins!

Hi - I would say the best bit of advice for the mullet is getting them on the feed with groundbait. Only when they are feeding confidently do I introduce a hook bait...for thick-lip mullet, in my experience, I have found using mashed bread the best groundbait.....just introduce little and often. Hope this helps
