I am going to try to pinch someone else's brains for a change: I/We have always fixed chemical lights on rod tips by wrapping easytear sellotape around them. As usual it got to be a difficult process last time we were out at night because it was drizzling (should have put them on at home I know). But what do the rest of you do? There has got to be a better way.

I fix them on with sellotape the same as you eccles - I don't like fixing any extra attachments (holders) to my rods. As you say though, if I know I'm doing a night session, I'll put them on before I go - I use the glowsticks I got from squidhead. No fear of them fading out - the damn things are still glowing in the shed as I write, from a session last week !

I tape the little rubber tube provided in the light packet to the tip of my rod with electrical tape. Just slot one in when needed. I too use the uranium lights heh heh.

Thanks for replies fellas actually I have now found a cheap plastic clip on which a guy on ebay is selling. As they are only £2 for a packet of 4 I am going to give them a try and report back to those who may be interested.

I have heard 1 or 2 stories of those holders causing tips to snap as they don't give with the rod, though i would imagine these are extreme cases. Would be a pity to snap your new salt

Ooer, Oh well spent me money now but it won't break the bank; the challenge for me now is to find a way to fix they thingamies so they don't bust the rod tip. Hey Sole/Gaz, maybe you have best idea I heard yet after all, do you leave the plastic tubes permanently on the rod tip? , which is what I would probably do.

Yes mate, i use `earth` colour electrical tape to bind on the rubber tubes, its a good colour to see in daylight when you are not even using a light stick. I have had mine on for about 2 years. You only need to slot in the light stick a quarter of an inch and it never comes out It sure saves sellotaping a new stick on every time.

i rarely use tip lights these days, when i do, it just gets taped on with insulation tape, shameless plug....... i prefer to use reflective tape, it allows the rod tip to bend as it should, and is much brighter than the cheapy snap lights available, you have a headlight on anyways, so if you're looking at it, it'd be lit, i found the cheap tiplights from ebay, or at least the two lots i bought, were useless on a cold winters night, would just not illuminate when they got cold ! check out www.mightybright.co.uk to see the stuff i'm talking of ;D

A good make of tip light will rarely let you down (i have had about 2 half duds out of my last 200) over the last 2 years. Without plugging andys lights, i have never seen better than the boer lightsticks by a mile and a half!(are you sure that 50 gallon drum or uranium didnt get sent to you andy?) As an occasional beach bass angler i would refrain from having my headlamp on at all, let alone shining in on my rod tip. I like the reflective tape for emergencies (when i forget a light stick, or during a bright moon) but a stick is essential in my book!

Ok The tip light holders did arrive, they do seem bendy enough not crack your rod tip but do not really fit a sea rod very well. Looks like they were designed more for those skinny freshwater rods. Must say though that I complained to the ebayer who apologised and refunded my money so no complaints there. Apparently he is going to ask his supplier to come up with something which is suitable for a sea rod after I made one or two suggestions.
