Don't use them much if at all, clip down pulley rig I use for most of my fishing, though for short distance don't think you can beat a simple running ledger.

As you say, short distance casting for bass. i dont see the need for anything else but a running ledger. Booms are more a boat or pier fishing thing to use for me. I do however often use a one up style rig these days.....just because when i used it once it caught, and again and again and the tangle sitch is always zero! .......... For longer range casting i use this same set up but with a shorter snood bringing the bait above the weight. This can obviously clipped down if needed

I was thinking more of a boat thing. I normally use small tubes but dont normally have much lead on 3Oz. I was thinking what the prefered method was for more lead, 12Oz - 1Lb ish.

Always use French booms for boating. Favourite for shore work is those little nylon ones (Breakaway I believe) they work well at reducing tangling on two hook clipped down rigs.

i prefer the ashpole, but do use the red zips sometimes. i dont think that it makes any differance for this type of fishing, so the zips will save doe.
