will finally have saved up enough money by Jan to buy a new reel for around £100 - £135ish I'm hoping to fish on clean beaches around the Gosport area.
i had a few recommended to me, like the ones above and have researched a few for my self but to many to choose from.
so your vote will be much appreciated

I'd go for the new Daiwa sealine x 20sha, pick them up for around £85. Much smoother than the old sl20sh. Will handle anything. Just replaced my 7ht's with this, cast as far but has power handles and high retrieve so will handle large fish, or weed! ;D

The only one out of the reels I haven't owned at some point is the sl20sh, my own preference would be to go for the penn. You can use these anywhere so your not so restricted if ever you need to fish somewhere a bit different

Have owned all these reels at some time, I now use 525 Mags for all clean ground fishing from the beach. I would say that the 525 has the edge for durability and cast control over the 6500, although perhaps not as smooth in the retrieve as the other reels listed.

cheers for your input people, im edging towards the mag elite or the sl20v. penns and 7HT turbo's are quite expensive for a newcomer going from a ron thompson mission to medium priced mutipliers. thanks again

Mag Elites have got plenty of guts for our beaches Lewis.

i have severial penn 525's,a lot more robust compared to the 6500, and because it has s/s drives gear, if u need to put 25lb on for rough ground marks it won't knock the c**p out of the reel! in all the most versitile reels out there at the mo hope this helps!

I have an Abu 6500 & a pair of 525 Mags.......
I find the Abu is better as a smooth long distance casting reel, but less robust and has a slower retrieve....I use this for light beach fishing / clean ground beach fishing.
The mags are very robust, durable and have a nice fast retrieve & I use them for light/heavy beach fishing....
My vote would be for the 525 mag as in my opinion its a better all round fishing reel... ;D ;D

Have you considered the Okuma Magnetix?
I have 2 and they are excellent for the money
