I think you need to up the anti for a resonable combo, say between £100-£150.

what i meant by a good combo was some thing responsive i got 1 at the moment but its a broomstick and cant see or feel bites i was thinking about a ron thompson zensorflex beachcaster multi but not having seen or used 1 idont know how it responds to even the slightest bite and if it can take a big fish

Don't know if this may interest: I bought a Cormoran Powersurf 13 ft a while ago on ebay from a bloke in Germany. In my ignorance and because of his bad ad., I thought it might be a cheap carbon job whereas it was actually carbon composite. Rather than go through the rigamarole of kicking up a stink and trying to get my money back (£17.50), I decided to keep it. Although it is a little heavy, it has proved to be quite nice in use (can cast a 4 oz sinker over 100 yds). Bite detection is very good - even a small flatty gets the rod tip bouncing and a 3 lb bass, gives it a dam good pull. Stick one of the better Okuma eggbeaters on it and you have a combo which will catch fish for under £50 if that's what you want. Slight drawback is that it does wave around a bit when it gets breezy but you can't have everything for that kind of money. I will say that I am much happier with my Shakespeare Salt Beach which is full carbon but that has a RRP of around £70.

The latest Ron Thompson combo is good value. It is the replacement for the X-Symmetry which I had for ages with an Okuma reel - really good to start with ..... think it is called the Nemesis ?
Allans Marine have a good value Nemesis combo for around £80 .... you wont get much cheaper than that which will do the job IMHO ...
