well the fella selling me his conoflex rod is also trying to ofload this reel too...........@ £50 as he is buying the super mag extra. I only have the 7HT so am not used to mag brakes just found this article on em....and wondered if the suggestions were legit. in my opinion the 525 is one heck of a reel. It is "fast" out of the box. I have mine and have added two additional earth magnets to it, and spooled it in the beginning with 17 to 20lb mono and then only about 1/2 to 3/4 a full reel (lets the reel spin slower easier to control) once you get used to it, you can lighten up on the line weight, fill the spool more and work with it. I don't know what conventional exprerience you have, mine was not much, but with some modifications etc... have no problem with mine and recommend it to anyone... I am more than willing to try the reel with your approvals as im keen to learn about multis . Gazza

Suggest you re-oil the inboard spool bearings with some Red Rocket Fuel or something like an EP80 gear oil. *********************************************** just found the above snippet of info too relating to my question......... is this oil necc then to slow the mutha down and is it available in this country. Pay just a little bit more and go for another ht7, I think there a much better reel than the 525's although I don't own one, but my mate has just changed from 525's over ht7's after using mine a couple times.

Ive just read about the "NEW" 7HT mag in this months sea dangler, and it seems Daiwa have longed to have a mag reel that works and by the opinions of the "Know alls" it would appear they have done just that albeit @ £160. yes I have a recon 7HT that works ok...but as a newby to multi fishing I want to try all the differnt model types just to see which suits my learning curve. Which is the reason I was after opinions on the standard 525 mag . cheers Gazza

If you only ever fish over flat sand and catch nothing bigger than a few pounds a 7HT is a better choice than a 525 Mag. But if you fish marks with fish holding features like rocks and weed the 525 will make your life much easier.

For casting, the 525's are very good, but not the best. But for REAL fishing, they are superb. Mine are out on the beach 4 to 6 times a week. They havent had a single drop of oil in thae last three years. I had a go on the casting court at Steyning the weekend, and with very standard fishing rods (Penn Viper ppt evo-1) was managing 140 meters. THREE YEARS HARD FIshiNG STRAIGhT OuT of THE boX! They are slo the only reel I have used that DOESNT feel like its going to disintegrate when reeling in heavy loads in fast tides. It is some winch!!

Many Thankx Rob,it would appear this tool may have fallen in my hands at the right time then mate.as i was considering a slosh 20 for rock work.but if this particular model is as you say engineered to withstand abuse from ruff marks then it may well find its way into me "getting fuller by the minute" sea tackle bag. cheers Gazza PS nobody has mentioned this "thick" oil to help slow the mutha down.....is this RED oil not needed then .

I also had a 100 kilo Broze Whaler shark "by accident" when fishing for shark bait on a Pen 555 (not available in this country) in Namibia, and it didnt show any signs of being beaten.
