I have recently bought 2 grauvell `zeus`egg beaters. One is the s5000 and the other the z5000. The Z is the more expensive one, but i like the S better. It has a better handle and over all feel. These are awesome reels and i can say, the best ones i have ever used. The Z5000 comes with 3 spools, one of them is for braid, one for spinning and the other is deeper for a lot of line. I do have a small prob with them though, the line seems to get caught under the spool now and again when messing about setting them up, but its not a great off putter. If you like fixed spool reels, you will love these (but go for the S5000 at around £65)

Still using a pair of the Shimano Speedmaster IIFSC bought when they first came out and still going strong. They will cast as far as any reel produced today. Why Shimano discontinued this model I'll never know.

For the boat its Fladen Maxximus 3/0 and 1/0 ( have never had a problem with them) Uptiding its a Penn 535 (normal dont need mag brakes on the boat) Beach its a pair of Penn 525s as they are still ok but will probabley get the mags when I need to replace them. On the Bass rod its a Abu 6500

Penn 525's Mags everytime, use them on clean beach or rough ground, even use them for uptiding. They rarely need servicing, totally indestructible and they can cast just as far as any other reel on the beach. I was always an Abu 6500 and 7ht fan, but found the constant cleaning and their reliability to be a pain. I also found that 6500's would only last a couple of seasons when used extensively, whereas I am still using one of the first Penn 525's to come onto the market. My 6500's and 7ht's now only come out when I'm doing light bassing work.

In the 80's when magnectic braking was available on multis, it was only available on reels which are made of moulded graphite/carbon plasticky materials eg. the GR's, Abu Ultra mag XL's, ....
I was waiting for them to come out with mag version of the classic Abu 6500..... and low and behold... it did ! I bought my first Abu Mag Elite in 1998....better than what I imagined....

Fav rod zziplex TZ500 Fav reel similar to you penn 525 tourni mag
both superb, but to be honest over powerful rod for around here, big casting and bite detections ok. If i was to recomend a rod i would always say zziplex primo (the best rod i have ever had for off the beach south coast)

only ever mag elites i use ct, but level wind gives people who would need" it one less thind to think about" when trying to remember all the key points of casting , reasons.... spairs and strip easy , easy to clean ...mags very easy to adjust halfway through the cast with left or right thumb due to wind or a mistake in the set up i like to run two rods when i can, and i like both reels to be the same i find it good to remove the problem of thinking about the change of reel when casting simply because they are all diff as you all know. i am looking for a new abu rod so both rods are the same too but i am having problems getting another abu stigma 4-8 oz rod i know its an older rod but it works for me . also looking for a 5500 mag elite to go on my bass/light rod anyway scottie you asked i told ! mag elites all the way baby dean

My Penn 525 mag Xtra's are nice reels, as are the 7HT's but......... I still like the ABU 6500's best Especially the Rocket, Black 'CT' & sports mag. But that is only MHO.
