For heavy boat work dont think you can beat penn senators, nearly indestructable. For uptiding i like the abu 7500c and on the beach i use a shimano speedmaster because it has a 6:1 retrive.

Let's hear it for the Shimano Speedmaster IIFSC, Richard. A generation ago, but still indestructable! Today I use a pair of equally antique Abby Sports Rockets (original 90s versions) .... 9 years of abuse and never even changed a main drive or pinion in them! Mags are fer fairies!!!!!!

Diawa Saltiga SA 30. Smooth clutch like how, fast and powerful. Does not need much attention just a rinse in fresh water. In addition to all that it dont look bad either

Shimano Stella 2500FB for spinning and float fishing. Smooth and reliable with nearly no line twist. Smooth drag wether you are fishing 20lb braid or 2Lb mono. I've landed mullet on 6lb snood, skipjack and bonito on 15lb braid among some trevally. Also landed me 2 potential IGFA record.

I still use the old blue elites for clean beaches and Penn 535s for the rougher stuff, not a big fan of the mag reels I've owned ( 525s and mag elites ) but I would like to have a try of the new sloshies ;D Also use 535s for light boat/kayak work and an old ryobi GS summit or other for the heavier stuff. the ryobi has been a superb reel, absolutely bombproof in the time I've had it (bought secondhand) and I'm not renowned for reel maintenance ;D would love to get hold of another

I put 'ct' cages on a couple of blue abu 6500 c4's which go great, thats my beach reel choice. Boat - Avet 'sx' for the lighter & 'mx' the heavier. Spining, bream & plaice fishing - fixed spool - daiwa caldia kix 3000 although I do fancy a stella but cant justify the dough! Uptiding - the big speedmaster 3 super quick retreive (6.1) Spinning from the shore Daiwia exceller 4500, nearly the build quality of the caldia kix but as indestructible as £50 will get ya!
This post could quite easily label the percentage of us as tackle tarts but I personally spend on build quality. I've had too many cheapies let me down, some at critical times!

Spining, bream & plaice fishing - fixed spool - daiwa caldia kix 3000 although I do fancy a stella but cant justify the dough! I've a 1500 size caldia kix. A work horse! The kix is among a few reel that will deliver a lot of drag compared to other reel of its size. The 1500 has 4kg of drag delivered smoothly and the 3000 should get 7-8kg. There's only 3 spinning reels of this size capable of doing so, the stella FA and C series and a certate. This reel has a much more powerful and smooth drag than an abu green elite!

Oh, depends really........Pick'n'mix from this lot:
ABU Morrum 7700CL, and one without the levelwind, Shimano TLD 5 and 10 Penn International 12 LT Avet SX Penn 225LD Penn 525 (slidey)mag Okuma Interceptor 30 & 50 f/s
Horses for courses, depends on what I'm doing, but that lot would cover 99.9% of my salty angling.
