can anyone suggest a decent headlamp? originally had a petzl with night searher rechargable battery pack, but was very heavy, sold it and bought a Shakespeare rechargeable, very light, has 2 bulbs a small one perfect for general use and a spot light. But the small bulb blows often , looking for a rechargeable as keep forgetting to buy batteries.

Get a Pezyl or similar which takes a screw or push fit bulb. Get a 3 watt HALOGEN bulb (6v) from here ..... (warning ultra bright 6v 1A bulbs tend to melt the reflector!) www.reflectalite.com/buyingbulbs.htmlGet a 4AmpHr rechargable from here (sealed and fits in pocket or belt) ... www.component-shop.co.uk/html/lead-acid.html (£3-90) You can usually use a car battery charger set to 6v or buy one from Argos or Maplin. 5 minutes soldering with a kettle cord and you're there.

I recently bought one of the Silva 5w Headlamps mentioned above. Very pleased with it. Very bright and lasts for ages. Can be used as a spot light or with 1 of the 2 frosted lens, 1 white, and one red, that are supplied as part of the package. Small and light battery pack that is worn around the waste or put in a pocket. Would recommend one.

Try the Princeton Apex you won't be disappointed. I've had mine a couple of months now and it's powerful beam is great for beach fishing etc. Even on it's lowest setting you still have adequate light for watching rods/baiting up. I bought mine from here www.realoutdoors.co.uk/acatalog/PRINCETON_TEC_APEX.html a good price and excellent service, arrived next day as promised. You could buy cheaper from the states but I prefer to support our stores and if anything should go wrong contacting them isn't a problem. I use 2700 NiHM rechargables in mine and after one initial charge they are still going strong after 3 sessions.
