just brought one from U.S for about £160 inculding insured 3 to 5 day shipping.Does anyone know anything about this model?

I think you will find that the casting hype is aimed at the US market where yer average angler ain't so proficient casting multipliers as a lot of UK anglers.

Agree with phish. Ignore the casting hype - it's a bit misleading for the UK market as most probably they are talking about casting/pitching live baits and the like off boats into surf etc - not beach fishing like we know it. For breaking they actually rely on the friction from the drag plate - hardly advanced, but in terms of hard core boat fishing reels its perfect for what it was intended to do.

I've got a mag conversion kit for one of mine but I'm still not brave enough to drill a massive whole in the side! If I ever do I'll take some pics and show you guys on here.

All that aside - I still rate the SX as one of the best reels for UK fishing ever made - I hardly use my TLD 5's anymore.

I'll be really interested to hear how you get on with the two speed squidhead - let us know.

Its a pain when that happens still its only about 4 pints of beer and a packet of crisps difference.

The trouble is the customs charges. I'm never sure how that works because some times they seem to charge and others not. I bought my wife quite an expensive fly reel from the states and had budgeted fo about £30 in customs charges...............nothing. Another time they seemed to want to double the price I'd paid.

All you got to do now is to get enough fish to wear it out.

Wouldnt that be good?

Andy, you had much of a chance to play with that 2speed yet?

D'you have an idea for that low ratio? Was thinking I could get one in case the winch fails on the boat trailer :0)

Yes m8 had a good play gears change very smoothly but will stick to 6.1 probably most of the time but you never know with them big slimy things ;DAs for the low gear specimen could use it as an ancour winch ;D Goner give it a sea trail soon as this weather clears with Nick to try for some blonde's .

After being a bit dispondent with this reel adjusting the drag got it sorted and went out in the field next door for a cast on my greys 4 to 6 oz 9 ft 6 "up tide rod with 18lb red ice 70lb clear leader for a few casts and was quite surprised how far it went about 80 to 100 yards on a 5oz bomb ;D that' good for me well chuffed bring on them blonde's ! I say ;D

How did you set it up for casting in the end? Are you casting against much of the drag?
Overruns?

no just click from free spool onto the live baiting freelining bit then adjusted the drag setting till was a tiniest amount of drag.Im terrible with a muti even use a fixed spool on my old uptider.Just like you said Adam dont no how I got in such a pickle before must have been the wine ;D
