Well has it happened or is it just a lie. Our agents on the beautiful IOW are unravelling the truth as I type (hope so anyway) If it is true it will come as no surprise really as the island has some great form for massive bass. However if it turns out to be untrue then shame on you Mr Dave Ley ( the captor,or not!!!).Allegedly caught on a 2hk pulley-pennell over the wall at Ryde with squid doing the job.

Read about that on wsf, the finer points and his reasons for not claiming the record, are a bit vauge. Like said on there, why say he kept the fish in the freezer, if he got stick for the last one he caught I`ll have to read what it says in `sea adverts`

As you say Daren, wouldn't be surprised - but there seems to be quite a lot of bad feeling surrounding the claim.

A labourer at work had a copy and I read it he says he got some stick over a prize he won for 2 pollack on the island and doesnt want the stick again. He is in a cant win situation though now because he has gone public. This makes me suspicious

I wouldnt care what anyone said as long as I had the pictures , I'd let her swim off again anyway and the memory would do for me.

Yes, the weight and a pic would do for me also, but if i`m honest i would weigh in a record bass. I once saw a susspected record bullhuss brought in on a charter boat in yarmouth many years ago, it was still alive in a dustbin on the guys boat. An official was called and was promptly weighed then returned back alive into the harbour, if memory serves me right it fell short by a couple of onces ....a good way of doing things!

record fish claims are farcical.we freshwater as well and it is even worse with false claims, dna tests on roach bream hybrids, dodgy scales, fish shown in 2 photos at hugely diff weights, fish relentlesly targeted after eating an extra maggot in case it has put on an extra dram.as you say sea fish caught in boats easy really.the only answer is to scrap records altogeather, makes no diff to anyone and saves all these saddo looneys claiming a few mins fame
