As a xmas prezzie, my mum got me this reel that she found at a cats home charity stall. Looks ok to me, but i feel its one of those REAL bad reels that will give up the ghost after one hour of reelin in weed. Its named as a "roddy hunter" (see what i mean) but its made by penn, so it cant be all THAT bad? I googled it, and i have seen them going for $80.....not bad for £5er buy? ...or just plain junk....any experience anyone?    |

i think ive seen a penn roddy in a few mags buy 1 get 2 free. about £70 for all 3 basically but they were gold i think. if its penn it cant be that bad

my advice would be -if you ain't sure get rid(it aint worth losing that fish of a lifetime)from the look of it, any reel made largely of plastic ain't worth jack(well maybe for the odd mackeral bashing session in the summer?) the choice is yours.....................

I would say if it's Penn then it can't be complete shite in terms of quality. Performance wise it could be lacking but I say give it a go and see  |

stick with it! as has been said, for a fiver you cant grumble!
not all 'mainly plastic' reels are crap.... look at the charter special.. and 535's!

Years ago Roddy were a reel maker in their own right! their reels were ok but not at the top of the tree.
They did however make one reel,the "Roddy Dominator" that was very good but a horrendous price.
The reel you have will probably be ok but dont expect a long life from it!!
